Three-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time world champion Lashawn Merritt presented “The Merritt Mindset” to Daemen students on February 18 in Schenck Hall, inspiring students to channel their own winning mindsets to achieve success. The event, hosted by the Student Government Association, was scheduled in collaboration with Daemen Athletics to enable student athletes to attend the presentation.

Merritt engaged in a dialogue with students, sharing important life lessons he’s learned from his career and the impact they’ve had on him. He reminded the audience, “Success doesn’t come from one moment. It comes from how you show up every day.”

It’s no surprise that students felt an immediate connection with him. “I had the opportunity to attend the event on campus featuring Lashawn Merritt,” said Lasse Mergens, tennis athlete and business administration student. “Hearing his perspective on discipline, resilience and performing under pressure was truly inspiring. Experiences like this provide valuable insights that go far beyond sports and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone at the highest level.”

Merritt shared his gold medals with the students who studied them with awe and admiration.
