CILS Hosts Interprofessional Event

Daemen University’s Center for Interprofessional Learning and Simulation (CILS) hosted a fall interprofessional event on Nov. 10, 17, and 19, welcoming 150 students from Daemen’s physician assistant, nurse practitioner, physical therapy, and social work programs and SUNY Erie’s respiratory therapy program. The three-day event was held in the CILS hospital suite and focused on interprofessional interaction in a grand rounds setting. Daemen faculty and staff, including Marci Zynda, MSN, NP; Dr. Pam Bartlo, PT, DPT, CCS; Hannah Gawlak, MPAS, PA-C; Liz Leiser, DNP, ANP-BC; Paul Sandell, PA-C, MPAS; Tony Surace, CILS executive director; and Liz Wright, associate vice president for Academic Relations and Public Affairs; facilitated the event.Medical manikin laying in a hospital bed in a simulated hospital room setting

“The CILS interprofessional events are a wonderful opportunity to bring students who share the same passion for patient care together to focus on communication and interprofessional collaboration,” said Surace. “In addition to clinical skills, these communication skills are critical to patient success.” 

Students reported that they particularly appreciated the opportunity to observe how health professionals in other fields handled situations in simulated settings and scenarios.
