A recent seven-game winning streak has elevated the Daemen College women’s basketball team into the latest version of the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll, with Daemen coming in tied at No. 10. This marks the first time since transitioning to NCAA Division II that the women’s team has been ranked in the poll.
The East Region media poll is voted on by sports information professionals from around the region.
The NCAA Division II East Region is comprised of teams from the East Coast Conference, the Northeast-10 Conference, and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
Under the guidance of third-year head coach Jenepher Banker, the Wildcats received three points in the voting and is tied with fellow ECC member Long Island University Post. Jefferson University of the CACC sits atop the poll with a perfect 20-0 record.
For the second consecutive week, the Daemen men’s basketball team is the unanimous No. 1 ranked team in the D2SIDA East Region media poll. Daemen garnered all six first-place votes and earned 60 points, the maximum total available, in the most recent poll. It is the fourth time in the last five weeks the team has been at the top of the rankings.
Daemen men’s basketball is also ranked in both Division II national polls. The Wildcats have moved to No. 13 in the D2SIDA national media poll, up one spot from last week. Coach Mike MacDonald’s team has also moved up in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, as the Wildcats are ranked No. 20 after coming in at No. 23 the previous week.
It marks the fifth straight week that Daemen men’s basketball has been ranked in the D2SIDA poll, and the second straight time they have been ranked in the NABC poll.
