“The 20th anniversary of Scholars Day means so much because it shows that Daemen is committed to academic excellence,” said Yolanda Morris, the senior director for enrollment events and experience. “We work very hard as a team to bring in stellar, well-rounded students who succeed academically and personally throughout their college career.”

At the event, the students are interviewed by Daemen faculty, staff, and alums. Current Trustee Scholars will be present to welcome students and help facilitate the interviews.

Megan Beardi, the director of undergraduate admissions, added, “For the past 20 years, Scholars Day has continued to be a cherished tradition for the Daemen community. We invite our exceptional accepted students to this event to compete for our ten most prestigious Trustee Scholarship awards, including two full tuition, four $21,000, and four $17,500 scholarships.”

Scholars Day will feature a keynote address from Dr. Megan Herr ‘09, an associate member of the transplant and cellular therapy program at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, who was selected among the first group of Trustee Scholars 20 years ago.

“Our Scholars have gone on to have amazing careers in all walks of life,” Morris added. “We are proud to bring back alumni Scholars for the 20th anniversary as they share their experiences here at Daemen as well as their professional accomplishments.”

Scholars Day programs lay on a table. The event will also include a presentation on the university’s honors program and panel discussions with alums and current Trustee Scholars. A reception for parents will also take place.

“After the event, the Scholars Day Committee, including faculty co-chairs Drs. Caitlyn Montross and Lisa Inglis, take a holistic approach to selecting students by looking at their interview scores, application, GPA, and extracurricular activities,” said Beardi.

“The students in our current Trustee Scholars group are from all over the country. The committee strives to select diverse and motivated students to positively represent Daemen even when they graduate and enter the workforce.”

Last year, 62% of the students who attended Scholars Day enrolled at Daemen University.
