Daemen University’s Paralegal Studies program has been reapproved by the American Bar Association (ABA) through Feb. 2031. Daemen has the only ABA-approved paralegal studies program in Western New York.
“We are deeply grateful to the faculty whose expertise and commitment made this reapproval possible, as well as to our alumni, current students, and advisory board members who contributed to the process,” said Dr. Heather Stassen, founding dean for the College of Arts, Sciences and Education and vice provost. “The American Bar Association’s reapproval affirms the high standards of our Paralegal Studies program, proudly the only program in Western New York with this distinction. This recognition reflects the strength of our community and the excellence our program continues to deliver.”
In addition, current Daemen student, Alex Lumanog, who is pursuing a Political Science degree and Paralegal Certificate, was awarded the Western New York Paralegal Association’s annual $500 scholarship and a one-year free membership to the Western New York Paralegal Association.
“Alex is beyond deserving of this recognition,” said Jay Wendland, professor of Political Science and department chair and vice president of Daemen’s Faculty Senate. “He is an ambitious student who works hard and has a bright future ahead of him. In addition to his Political Science major, he is pursuing three minors and the Paralegal Certificate. The entire History and Political Science department is incredibly proud of Alex and thrilled to see him win this award.”
“Being recognized from the Western New York Paralegal Association truly means a lot to me!” said Lumanog. “I’m extremely grateful to be even considered for the scholarship let alone being this year’s recipient. In the end, I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without the help of the Political Science and History departments, especially from Dr. Wendland and Dr. Parshall.”
