Daemen University graphic designer shelbyShelby Janczyk ’18 recently joined Daemen University in her new role as a graphic designer. An alum, Janczyk earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a minor in entrepreneurship.

While at Daemen, Janczyk worked in a senior collaboration designing the creative campaign for Daemen’s All High Art Show, which her class won a Gold American Advertising (ADDY) Award for in 2018.

After graduation, she worked at a video production agency where she completed graphic design work. She then began working at Renoun Creative as a graphic designer and was quickly promoted to the position of associate art director. She and her team won two silver Addy Awards for both web- and print-based work. She returned to Daemen, this time as an employee, to pursue in-house design work and share her knowledge to amplify the success of her alma mater.

In her current role, Janczyk works to design, create, and collaborate on marketing pieces and collateral that communicate Daemen’s brand to prospective students and families.

What inspired you to enter your field of work?

I have a deep passion for creating and providing a message that resonates with people from all walks of life. I enjoy processing concepts and building clear, creative methods to achieve the goals of clients. I love making graphics that people are proud to share with others and building brand identity and implementing strategy.

Why did you want to apply to Daemen?

When I saw an opening at Daemen, I remembered how at home I felt during the four years I studied here. I think it’s important to feel inspired wherever your career takes you.

My career path has brought me back to Daemen,  the place where I learned to do graphic design. Working with individuals that further my creative spirit and nurture collaboration is a big picture goal of mine. I’m always willing and excited to take part in new experiences.

What is one thing people may not know about you?

I love to cook each year around the holidays. I make pierogies from scratch, a skill I learned from my late Polish grandmother. It brings me joy to keep the traditions she taught me alive and I remember her fondly each time I enter the kitchen.

Each year, I start with a traditional flavor of cheese and potato and always add in a “freestyle” pierogi to experiment with new flavors.

What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?

I’m most looking forward to using my knowledge and skills to support and elevate Daemen’s new title as a university.

What are your passions outside of work?

I have two adult rescue animals, one black cat named Mr. Business and a three-legged dog, Hammy. I also love movies and visit the theater with my boyfriend every Tuesday for “discount night.” I also love Halloween and creating my own costumes by hand.
