Daemen University Trustee Scholars groupDaemen University will host its annual Scholars Day event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, offering nominated, accepted students the opportunity to compete for one of the institution’s 10 most-prestigious Trustee Scholarship awards.

To begin the event, students will be welcomed by Greg Nayor, senior vice president for strategic initiatives, as well as two current Daemen Trustee Scholars

“During Scholars Day, our highest-level accepted students vie for two full-tuition scholarships, four $17,000 scholarships, and four $15,000 scholarships,” said Yolanda Morris, director of admissions events and special programs.

In order to be eligible to attend Scholars Day, students must first be nominated by the university and then submit an application that includes a written essay.

The Daemen Scholars Day Committee, made up of university administrators and faculty, then completes an extensive review process for each candidate, explained Austin Brass, director of undergraduate admissions at Daemen.

“When nominating each student, the committee considers factors such as GPA, SAT, and other scores, as well as involvement in extracurricular activities,” said Brass. “We look for students who are inclusive, innovative, passionate, and motivated. Our ultimate goal is to award students who we believe will make a difference on campus and best represent Daemen’s mission, vision, and values.”

Brass added that “Throughout their time at Daemen, trustee scholars have gone on to conduct impactful research and start valuable student clubs and organizations.”

Students who are extended an invitation to Scholars Day will be interviewed on campus by Daemen faculty, staff, and alumni. Current Trustee Scholars will also be available to help facilitate the interviews.

In addition, the event will feature presentations regarding Daemen’s Honors Program, and panel discussions with alums and current Trustee Scholars. A reception for parents will also take place.

Applications from Scholars Day nominees are due Friday, Jan. 27.
