Daemen College accounting students will provide free tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families starting on Feb. 8.
Tax preparation will be offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) by appointment only to local residents with incomes below $54,000. Appointments will be available from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 8 through April 12 in the Room 205 Business Building, located near Daemen’s Getzville Road entrance. Parking is free and available next to the building. No tax preparation will be available on March 15 during the college’s spring break.
“We are pleased to again offer this important service to the community, and to give our students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on professional experience,” said Dr. Michele Flint, chair of the Accounting Department.
For tax preparation service appointments, clients are asked to bring their Social Security card, a valid driver’s license or photo identification, and, if applicable, W-2, 1099, 1098T, and 1095 forms. In addition to 2016 tax returns, information on deductions and credits, tax ID number, copies of income transcripts from the IRS, and, if required, the total paid to a day care provider will be needed to complete tax returns. Both spouses must be present if filing a joint return.
