Free Tax Preparation Offered at Daemen

By | February 2, 2018

Daemen ClassroomDaemen College accounting students will provide free tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families starting on Feb. 7.

Offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, tax preparation will be available by appointment only to area residents with annual incomes below $54,000. Residents with incomes that slightly exceed this limit may be eligible for assistance based on their tax profile.

Appointments will be available from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 7 through April 11 in Room 205 in Daemen’s Business Building located near the Getzville Road entrance. Free parking is available next to the building. Tax preparation will not be available on March 14 during the college’s spring break.

“This program is a great service to our community and offers our students exceptional professional experience in the accounting field,” said Dr. Sharlene Buszka, chair of the Daemen Accounting Department.

Tax clients are requested to bring their Social Security card, a valid driver’s license or photo identification, and, if applicable, W-2, 1099, 1098T, and 1095 forms. Along with 2017 tax returns, information on deductions and credits, tax ID number, copies of income transcripts form the IRS, and, if required, the total paid to a day care provider will be needed to complete tax returns. Both spouses must be present if filing a joint return.

To schedule an appointment or for additional information, email vita@daemen.edu or call 839-7646. Voice messages will be returned by a VITA team member within two business days.
