The Daemen College cheerleading team won first place at the prestigious Fredonia Cheerleading and Dance Competition held Jan. 21 at SUNY Fredonia’s Steele Hall Fieldhouse.
Daemen’s cheerleading team, which consists of 16 members under the direction of coach Brianna Aichinger, was judged to have the best 2-minute routine among competing college teams at the event that also included divisions for high school, youth, and all-star teams. The Wildcats’ routine combined traditional cheerleading stunts with dancing, jumping, and tumbling.
Participating in several competitions during the year, the college’s cheerleading team also appear regularly at men’s basketball games played in Lumsden Gymnasium. The team, which operates as a student club, is open to male and female students.
