Free Tax Preparation Available at Daemen

1040 Tax FormDaemen College accounting students will provide free tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families starting on Feb. 11.

Tax preparation services, which are being offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, will be available by appointment only to area residents with annual incomes below $56,000. Residents with incomes that slightly exceed this limit may be eligible for assistance based on their tax profile.

Appointments may be scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Mondays from Feb. 11 through April 8 in Room 205 in Daemen’s Business Building located near the college’s Getzville Road entrance. Free parking is available next to the building. Tax preparation will not be available on Feb. 18 or March 11.

Tax Preparation event at Daemen“We are pleased to offer this valuable service to our community and to give our accounting students an opportunity to gain vital career experience,” said Dr. Sharlene Buszka, associate professor and department chair of accounting and business administration.

Tax clients are requested to bring their Social Security card, a valid driver’s license or photo identification, and, if applicable, W-2, 1099, 1098T, and 1095 forms. Along with 2017 tax returns, information on deductions and credits, tax ID number, copies of income transcripts form the IRS, and, if required, the total paid to a day care provider will be needed to complete tax returns. Both spouses must be present if filing a joint return.
