“We are pleased to receive this grant to strengthen our campus resources for student veterans, who are an integral part of the college community,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “This additional support will further our commitment as a veteran friendly institution to provide a successful college experience to veterans at Daemen.”
The grant to the college’s Nancy Haberman Gacioch Center for Veterans has been awarded in response to a nomination by the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY, Inc., with whom the college will collaborate to provide essential services and support to Daemen’s student veterans.
“Daemen’s commitment to working with the community to ensure their student veterans have an excellent experience made them a natural fit for this funding,” said Roger L. Woodworth, president and CEO of the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY. “We look forward to continuing to work with Daemen to help empower student veterans in meeting their educational goals.”
Daemen’s center, which coordinates veteran services at the college, is overseen by Dr. Maureen Millane, associate vice president for community engagement, and Dr. Theresa Joyce, coordinator of veteran center services. The college also has an active Student Veteran Alliance advocacy organization.
“This grant will enable us to focus on enhancing and developing our services to address the unique needs of our student veteran population,” said Dr. Michael Brogan, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “We are dedicated to providing the best support to ease their transition to academic life on a college campus and to achieve their goal of earning a college degree.”
Community Integration is a national award program administered by America’s Warrior Partnership Community Integration, a nonprofit organization that supports community-level agencies providing holistic services to veterans.
“The Community Integration grant helps foster greater community collaboration and partnership,” said Cheree Tham, director of American’s Warrior Partnership Community Integration. “We believe our support to Daemen will help make their services for student veterans even more successful.”
Daemen has been ranked nationally as a veteran supportive institution, including its eighth consecutive designation by Victory Media as a Military Friendly School, and selection as a top school in the 2017 Military Advanced Education and Transition Guide to Colleges and Universities.
