Perhaps the latest content on Daemen’s social media has attracted your attention? If not, you’re missing out.

Jessica Brass

The engaging contests, music and photography are brought to you by Jessica Brass, who recently joined Daemen in her role as communications specialist.

Originally from the Outer Banks area of North Carolina, Brass earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from East Carolina University, as well as an associates degree in photography.

She worked for seven years in marketing for a real estate firm – creating videos, commercials and social media content.

She then operated her own photography business, Common Dove Photography, which she maintains.

At Daemen, Brass creates engaging social media marketing materials – from upbeat “Reels” to video interviews.

You can see Brass’s work on Daemen’s main channels, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. She is also reviving Daemen’s TikTok and Snapchat accounts to appeal to prospective students.

“I want every faculty and staff member to engage with our social media. I think that will pique peoples’ interests in what we have to offer at Daemen,” said Brass. “That’s the easiest thing people can do to help us gain more visibility.”

We spoke further with Brass to learn more about her plans to vamp up Daemen’s social presence.

What inspired you to enter your career field?

I believe creativity and the things we consume visually – and with all our senses – make the world go round. I am passionate about telling stories, and finding new ways to convey emotion.

I enjoy bringing together a variety of media according to a vision. I make conscious choices to use certain words, and combine different elements to create a hook to attract the attention of our audience.

Why did you apply to work at Daemen?

Previously, when I took photos as a freelance photographer on campus, I engaged with faculty and students and there was an overwhelming undertone of pride and passion for the university – so much love. It made me want to be part of this community.

What do you look forward to in your position at Daemen?

I am currently working on a project titled, “Good morning Daemen” where I interview faculty on camera with the goal of making the audience feel like they are simply sitting down and talking with faculty or staff over coffee.

Basically, I will convey a summary of what they offer to Daemen students in a fun and informative way. I also hope it helps students see themselves here.

Additionally, I want to encourage students to be more involved in behind-the-scenes content creation so that they can both learn about the communications field, as well as provide their unique perspective.

What are some things people may not know about you personally or professionally?

I previously painted in mural competitions for five years. I once won and was able to visit France as a visiting artist.

Currently, I channel this passion by creating live wedding paintings. I spend at least five hours at each wedding to create a sentimental piece.

I have also worked as a wedding photographer for 10 years. My work has been featured in several magazines, including Southern Bride Magazine, Trendy Bride – The Carolinas Magazine, as well as the Wedding Chicks and TLC websites.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I enjoy spending quality time with my husband and three boys. Watching my kids shine and find their passions means so much more to me than anything I accomplish.

Who or what has been the biggest source of inspiration in your life?

After becoming a mom to my eldest son, I wanted to follow my dreams with him by my side.

Anything that I ever did, I always did with him at the forefront of my mind.

I always thought that if he saw me live out my truths, then it would be easier for him to go through whatever he was faced with in life. I do that now for all my children.
