Daemen College will hold its second annual Daemen Day in Amherst on Sept. 9, an exciting celebration designed to connect the college community with Main Street’s thriving business district.
This year’s event will also feature several campus activities, including the grand opening of The Den, a newly renovated dining and social facility in the Wick Campus Center.
“Daemen Day is an opportunity to celebrate our pride as a longstanding partner in the vibrant Amherst community by bringing together our faculty, staff and students to explore and support the many prospering businesses and services near our campus,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “Following the success of last year’s inaugural celebration, we have added several on-campus activities to enhance the offerings of this lively event.”
The college will provide free trolley rides from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. up and down Main Street where Daemen community members can visit and shop at a variety of establishments located in the Williamsville business district. Complimentary Daemen Day in Amherst t-shirts will be handed out to the first 100 travelers on the trolley.
Also for the daylong celebration, Daemen constituents with college ID will be eligible for substantial discounts, contests, prizes, and giveaways at participating businesses displaying Daemen Day in Amherst window signs or balloons. The college mascot Willy the Wildcat will be in attendance and a special mascot contest with hourly prizes will be awarded.
As part of on-campus activities, the college will officially open The Den, a completely redesigned modern dining and entertainment space, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on the first floor of the Wick Center.
Other activities planned for the day are a student organization fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a tailgate party with live music by The Rig, games and refreshments. The day will wrap up with a Wildcats volleyball game at 7 p.m. in the Lumsden Gymnasium.
