Erin Carman, assistant professor in the Department of Social Work and Sociology, has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Louis H. Swartz Memorial Award honoring a distinguished JD/MSW alumni of the University at Buffalo social work program.
The award was established in 1977 and honors an outstanding University at Buffalo School of Social Work graduate who has made noteworthy contributions to social work practice and/or research and who, by their positive attitude and drive to make a difference, have added distinction to the social work profession.
To commemorate and honor the accomplishment, the school will be presenting the award to Carman during an online zoom event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27.
“Professor Carman is richly deserving of this recognition because of her strong commitment to social justice. She promotes awareness about diversity, equity, and oppression in her teaching and actively seeks to advance social change through her engagements with the Buffalo Police Advisory Board and with local non-profit and advocacy organizations,” Said. Dr. Diane Bessel, Chair, Associate Professor and Interim MSW/BASW Program Director.
