Daemen College has been ranked among the top 15 in the nation on this year’s “50 Best Value Small Colleges” list released by Best Value Schools, an online guide to the best values in college education in the country.
In the 2019 rankings, Daemen is No. 14 and is the only college in the Buffalo Niagara region and one of seven across New York State named to the list.
“We are proud to have the value of a Daemen education recognized nationally for its affordability and high academic quality and to be placed in the company of some of the best colleges in the country,” said Daemen President Gary Olson. “As this ranking indicates, we have a strong commitment to providing an exceptional education and college experience at a low cost that prepares students for future success.”
Daemen’s ranking on the 2019 list includes it with many prestigious institutions in the U.S. such as Amherst College, California Institute of Technology, Colgate University, and Swarthmore and Vassar colleges.
Daemen was praised for having “the most ambitious general education requirement among the best small colleges with a core curriculum that stresses information literacy, communication skills, and ethical discernment” and for also featuring a mandatory service learning component.
According to Best Value Schools, the top 50 choices of the best small colleges on the list are based on multiple measures of academic quality and factored in cost to ensure that the recommendations are sensitive to the financial needs of a wide range of students.
Using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Data System, the “Best Value Small Colleges” list includes the top colleges in the country with 4,000 or fewer students and offer bachelor degrees and above. Rankings are based on net price, which includes tuition, financial aid and additional expenses, retention and graduation rates, and class size.
This new ranking is one of several recent distinctions Daemen has earned, including being named one of the “Best Colleges in America” by Money magazine, Military Friendly School by Victory Media, and a Best Value College by University Research and Review. Daemen has also been elevated to the doctoral classification by Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
