Daemen University continues to celebrate local aspiring artists during its annual All High Art Weekends.
The 56th annual All High Art Exhibition opened on Saturday, February 3, in the Elizabeth C. and Peter Tower Gallery in the Nancy Haberman Gacioch Center for Visual and Performing Arts, featuring the artwork of 91 high school juniors and seniors from across Western New York.
From paintings and drawings to ceramics and photography, the event allows students to showcase their original work. It also provides them with the unique opportunity to win a Daemen scholarship, including $3,000 for “Best in Show” to a senior.
“This exhibition stands as a testament to the talent and passion surrounding the arts in our Western New York area and surrounding counties,” said Heather Putney, a co-chair of the art exhibition and an assistant professor in the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Department. “A special thank-you to all the stakeholders that made this event a success, and to the students, teachers, and guardians for their unwavering support of the arts.”
Portfolio Day, the second of Daemen’s All High Art Weekends events, was held on Saturday, February 10.
High school students interested in pursuing a career in design, illustration, animation, or studio arts had the opportunity to meet with VPA faculty for one-on-one sessions to review their portfolios and receive professional feedback.
Two incoming students were chosen as Portfolio Scholars based on the strength of their portfolio, academic potential, personal character, and leadership potential. Scholarships include $5,000, renewed annually if the student maintains a GPA above 3.0.
Meanwhile, the All High Art Exhibition is up in the Tower Gallery through February 23. It’s free and open to the public.
