Daemen University’s Physical Therapy Department hosted its annual Evidence Based Practice Clinical Research Symposium on Saturday, December 9.
Around 300 students, faculty, clinicians, and family members attended the event in Schenck Hall, which began with keynote speaker Dr. Shannon Lupien, an associate professor of Psychological Sciences at Daemen.
A number of sessions were held where third-year professional Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students presented their capstone research projects in a 25-minute platform format. The projects are a culmination of three semesters of clinical research coursework with a faculty mentor.
Student research topics included:
- The Athlete Triad and Mental Health
- Concussion Management Outcomes
- Factors Influencing Rehospitalization Rates
- Identification of Hypertension in Outpatient PT Clinics
- Physical Activity Behavior and Wearable Technology
- Test-retest Reliability of the Thomas Test
Professional physical therapists who attended the symposium earned four contact hours of continuing education credit that was approved through the New York State Board of Physical Therapy.
