Daemen College honored Veterans Day in a number of significant ways this year to acknowledge all of those who have served the country in war or peace.
Taking advantage of the mild Western New York weather, one of those happenings was a tree planting ceremony that was conducted on the campus at the Founder’s Walkway, outside of the college’s historic Rosary Hall. The event was a quiet, dignified, and solemn remembrance for all of those who have served in the US Armed Forces and was attended by some of Daemen’s veteran student population and other college community members. Veteran Dr. Michael Brogan, senior vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, delivered remarks including the important message to “never leave anyone behind” defining the commitment that the college continues to make to veteran students and its diverse student, faculty, and staff populations.
In addition to the tree planting and special remarks, veteran student Anthony Ayers participated in a ceremonial ringing of the Founders Bell at the conclusion of the outdoor commemoration. Ayers dedicated 21 years to the Army and retired in 2019 as a Sergeant First Class.
Thought provoking video content was also shared by the college on Veterans Day, developed to share three members of the veteran student population’s personal and global thoughts on their service and the day of recognition.
