Daemen College accounting students will provide free tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families from February through April.
The tax preparation services, which are offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, will be available by appointment to local residents with annual incomes up to $56,000. Residents with incomes that slightly exceed this limit may also be eligible for assistance based on their tax profile.
Appointments are available to qualifying tax clients from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through April 8 in Room 205 in Daemen’s Business Building located near the college’s Getzville Road entrance. Free parking is available next to the building. Tax preparation will not be available on March 11 during the college’s spring break.
“In addition to providing a wonderful service in our local community, this program offers our students the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience in the accounting field,” said Dr. Sharlene Buszka, chair of the Daemen Accounting Department.
Tax clients are requested to bring their Social Security card, a valid driver’s license or photo identification, and, if applicable, W-2, 1099, 1098T, and 1095 forms. In addition to 2018 tax returns, information on deductions and credits, tax ID number, copies of income transcripts from the IRS, and, if required, the total paid to a day care provider will be needed to complete tax returns. Both spouses must be present if filing a joint return.
