Over 20 Girl Scouts attended the event, during which 17 Daemen Physician Assistant students taught them essential outdoor first aid skills, including treatment of burns, insect bites, dehydration, anaphylaxis, splinting of fractures, and other first aid skills.

PA faculty Sarah Latchford, Associate Professor; and Jennifer Barwell, Program Director, Chair, and Associate Professor; attended the workshop. The workshop was made possible by the NYSSPA through a PAs STEP Up grant the organization received from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

“This event was a great opportunity for us to empower Girl Scouts with essential outdoor first aid skills while also introducing them to the PA profession,” said Meyers. “We are thankful to the NYSSPA and NCCPA organizations for their support in making this training available to these future leaders.”
