Daemen University has added a new doctor of nursing practice program, the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, DNP, which is the only program of its kind currently offered in the Western New York area.
Approved by the New York State Education Department on November 24, this doctor of nursing practice program—the highest clinical degree in nursing—enhances expertise and proficiency across various aspects of patient care, including leadership, informatics, technology, and health care policy.
The DNP program can be completed in a post-Bachelor’s or post-Master’s plan of study. It will be available to graduate students in Spring 2025.
“We strive to empower nursing students to explore and pursue opportunities within the nursing profession that are right for them,” said Dr. Elizabeth Leiser, Assistant Professor/Advanced Practice Program Director at Daemen. “Given the increased focus of New York State-based hospital systems and larger inpatient practice groups on hiring board-certified acute care nurse practitioners or those with evidence of an acute care nurse practitioner residency, Daemen is proud to offer acute care programs for students whose passion lies in improving the quality of life for adults as they age.”
Daemen University offers three additional nurse practitioner programs, including Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, DNP, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, M.S., and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, M.S.
