Academic Festival Showcases Range of Activities

Marking its 16th year, the Daemen College Academic Festival highlighted a rich array of academic and creative achievements at the all-day event held on April 20.

A special diversity event featuring national activist Erin Davies started off the festival with a display of her rainbow-colored Volkswagon Beetle, known as the “Fagbug,” followed by a lecture on her efforts in support of tolerance and acceptance and to raise awareness on hate crimes.

The full-day of Academic Festival activities opened with a moment of silence for Thomas “Tommy” Krickovich, a physician assistant graduate student who died in an accidental fall a few days prior to the festival.

Afterward, Daemen President Gary A. Olson welcomed the large gathering of students, faculty and staff to the campus-wide celebration. “The thoughtful and sophisticated submissions that are submitted to the Academic Festival are a tribute to the high quality of the students who attend Daemen College,” said Olson. “These works speak volumes about the commitment to excellence in teaching and learning that thrives here—an important part of the legacy upon which this great institution was founded.”

Following the poster session that featured research projects in a variety of academic areas, the festival continued with presentations, artistic and theatrical performances, and other activities held across campus throughout the day.
