Laura Azzarella, the associate vice president for employee engagement at Daemen University, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Buffalo Niagara Human Resources Association (BNHRA). In her new role, Azzarella will serve as the governmental affairs director.
The BNHRA is the pre-eminent human resource professional organization for Western New York and an affiliate chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR management association.
Azzarella had been a member of both organizations for many years prior to accepting the new position.
“As the governmental affairs director, I will be monitoring, evaluating, and informing the community on legislative, regulatory, and legal actions at the federal, state, and local levels that will have an impact on HR practices,” Azzarella said. “One of my absolute favorite disciplines is learning and development and breaking down concepts into understandable, actionable topics. I’m really excited for the opportunity to inform the Buffalo HR community and help them get their arms around implementing changes in their workplaces.”
She will also be working with the board to help grow and develop the BNHRA by supporting members and encouraging them to participate in events.
“We are the city of good neighbors, and you absolutely see that in the Buffalo HR community,” added Azzarella. “Networking events have given me great insight into achieving my HR certification, and getting to know how other HR colleagues are facing challenges in their positions helps me build my own strategy. It’s a phenomenal resource and a genuinely rewarding way to build professional relationships.”
