M. Krista Barth ’90, who grew up outside of Washington, D.C., has a deep family connection to Buffalo and she often spent summers in Western New York. Familiar with the region, she decided to attend college in the area and found Daemen College to be the perfect fit for her because of its small college atmosphere, inspiring professors and challenging curriculum.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Daemen, Barth graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She went on to practice law in Maryland before relocating to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., where she is a partner in a law firm with her husband. A litigation attorney, she focuses on complex family law, trusts and estates, and commercial litigation.
Barth has spoken on family law issues for national organizations and on national television, including on “Larry King Live,” “Court TV,” and the “Today Show.” She currently blogs for the Huffington Post on issues of relationships, marriage, family, and divorce.
“Daemen gave me a place to grow and learn in a nurturing atmosphere, with a focus on the importance of helping others,” said Barth. “The lessons I learned at Daemen helped me find a balance between work and family. Although I’m a divorce attorney, I find the most joy in helping people stay together, if possible, or move on with peace and dignity.”
Barth resides in in Jupiter, Fla., with her husband and three of her four children. Her eldest son is now a practicing attorney in Miami. Her love for WNY recently led to the decision to build a summer home on Lake Ontario.
“I have been fortunate to travel extensively and to live in wonderful places but have never found anywhere as warm and family-oriented as Western New York,” said Barth.
