Daemen President Dr. Gary A. Olson and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Michael Brogan welcomed Patrick Lee; his wife, Cynthia; Lee Foundation Executive Director Jane Mogavero; and several other Lee Foundation Board members and staff.

“We were honored to host the Lee Scholars event at Daemen University,” said Dr. Lisa Rafalson, founding dean of the College of Health, Human Sciences, and Business. “The financial support means so much to students in helping them obtain an advanced degree that enables them to improve the lives of others by providing the necessary mental and behavioral health therapy and services to those in need.”

Daemen Lee Scholar, Jessica Sass, MSW ’25, shared remarks on the importance of the scholarship for her education, thanking the Foundation for its investment in her and making it possible for her to focus on her clinical training while raising her young son and participating in her clinical practicum.

“Addressing the shortage of mental health professionals in Western New York is one of our top priorities,” said Mogavero. “The rising costs of higher education and historically low wages deter people from entering the field. For the dedicated individuals who do persist, they are often saddled with student loans. Through our partnership with Daemen University, we are removing financial barriers for people pursuing mental health careers and ensuring our community has access to well-trained, dedicated staff.”

Based in Buffalo, N.Y., the Patrick P. Lee Foundation is a private, family foundation committed to achieving immediate and measurable impact in the areas of education and mental health. Through its scholarship program, the Foundation supports students pursuing careers in mental health, addressing the growing demand for mental health professionals.
