PAUL SHORT RUN (WOMEN'S COLLEGE WHITE RACE) - FULL RESULTS

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - It was another banner day for the Daemen College women's cross country team as they took a major step forward by running to a first place finish at the prestigious Paul Short Run held this afternoon at Lehigh University. One of the premier cross country meets in the United States, the Paul Short Run features 12 total races and nearly 4,000 competing runners. The Wildcats were participants in the Women's College White Race - the last of three women's collegiate races on the schedule today which featured teams from both the NCAA Division II and III ranks.

Coming off a strong showing (fifth place) at last weekend's Harry F. Anderson Invitational, the Wildcats saw their top five runners all place in the top 60 today, totaling 121 points in the team standings. Division III Susquehanna placed second with 158 points. Daemen was one of 10 NCAA Division II teams in the field, which included 27 total teams.

It marked the third race victory for the Wildcats in four races this season. Daemen previously placed first at Le Moyne's Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational on September 4, as well as at their own meet, the Daemen Duels, on September 11.

Lauren Wick of Lebanon Valley took home individual medalist honors. She completed the 6K race in 21:47.2 to top the field that included 263 competitors.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Wildcats were led today by redshirt senior Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) who placed fifth with a career-best 6K time of 22:34.2. Nolet, a second team all-conference runner in 2019, shaved nearly a minute-and-a-half off her previous personal-best time (23:59.2) which she set at the 2019 regional championship meet. It marked the third top-10 finish of the season for Nolet who has now been Daemen's top finisher in nine of the team's last 10 meets.
  • Freshman Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.) also earned a top-10 finish today - the third of her career - by placing ninth. Running her first collegiate 6K, Colca crossed the finish line in 22:45.7.
  • Also running her first collegiate 6K was junior Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) who was Daemen's No. 3 scorer for the fourth time in as many races this season. The triathlon convert posted a time of 23:18.3 today.
  • Senior Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.) - one of three Wildcats who had previously competed in a collegiate 6K race - recorded a career-best time of  23:42.7. She was more than 90 seconds better than her previous best time (25:19.90) which she set as a freshman at the 2018 regional championship meet.
  • Freshman Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) figured in the scoring for the second consecutive meet. She placed 59th with a time of 24:15.6.
  • Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.), Haley Hinds (Blossvale, N.Y.), Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.), Amanda Bushway (East Aurora, N.Y.) and Megan Chamberlin (Amherst, N.Y.) also competed for Daemen today. Bailey (86th, 24:37.9) and Hinds (92nd, 24:41.7) both earned top-100 finishes. Thomas placed 123rd (25:24.1); Bushway posted a career-best time of 26:51.2 and placed 172nd; and Chamberlin placed 217th (28:43.3).
