Women's Basketball Up To Fifth In D2SIDA East Region Poll 11/29/2021 4:05:00 PM By: CONTACT: Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications | (716) 839-8385 | mmiranto@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Women's Basketball Media Poll for week three of the 2021-22 season which was released this afternoon. The Wildcats have now been ranked in 24 consecutive D2SIDA regional polls, a span that dates back to January 2019. The defending East Region champions are off to a 2-2 start to the season and they move up one spot in the poll despite being idle last week. The Wildcats most recently split a pair of games at the Lady Chap Classic hosted by Lubbock Christian on Nov. 19-20. In their tournament opener, senior forward Mickayla Ivy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored the go-ahead basket with 19 seconds remaining and secured a defensive rebound on the final possession of the game, delivering a 54-53 win over Angelo State. Daemen closed the tournament with a 62-37 loss to tournament host Lubbock Christian, the defending national champions who opened the season ranked No. 1 in both national polls. Daemen accumulated 29 points in the poll voting this week. Despite suffering consecutive non-conference losses to Eckerd and Valdosta State last week, Bentley (3-2) remains atop the poll. The Falcons garnered three first-place votes and totaled 57 points to edge out No. 2 USciences (4-1) by a single point. USciences accounted for the final three first-place votes. No. 3 Pace (4-0) and No. 4 Jefferson (4-1) round out the upper portion of the poll. The bottom half of the poll includes: No. 6 Southern New Hampshire (5-1), No. 7 Stonehill (0-2), No. 8 Franklin Pierce (5-2), No. 9 Assumption (4-2) and No. 10 Dominican (N.Y.) (5-2). The D2SIDA East Region media poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the ECC, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and Northeast-10 Conference.
