Wildcats Repeat As Daemen Storm Fall Classic Champions

LOCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's bowling team successfully defended its team title at the Daemen Storm Fall Classic today after placing first out of 12 teams during the two-day event that took place at Brad Angelo Lanes.

The Wildcats ended up winning nine of 10 matches over the two days and placed first with a total pin fall of 9,057 for a per game average of 181.1.

The Wildcats finished ahead of Mercyhurst University, which came in second with 8,807 pins for an average of 176.1. Saint Vincent College (8,594), William Smith College (8,536) and Roberts Wesleyan University (8,532) rounded out the top five.

Team members Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Emma Smith (Williamsville, N.Y.) were honored with a "Senior Day" ceremony before today's action in recognition of their dedication to the program in recent years.

Daemen head coach Carrie Racsumbeger also passed a career milestone during the day today, as she recorded her 200th career win. Daemen now stands at 26-15 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen went a perfect 5-0 during the opening day and entered day two in first place with 4,581 total pins.
  • All of today's matches were scored using Baker Format.
  • Daemen opened the day with an 928-890 win over rival Roberts Wesleyan. RWU held a 403-362 lead after the first two games, but Daemen won the final three games (203-199, 182-155, 182-133) to secure the comeback.
  • The Wildcats then cruised to an 872-682 win over Baldwin-Wallace. The Wildcats opened with a 199-148 win in game one and never looked back.
  • Daemen then ran their winning streak to 10-straight matches following an 858-816 victory over Ursuline College. Once again, Daemen started fast with a 220-145 win in game one and held a 581-482 lead after three games.
  • Daemen suffered its lone loss over the two days following an 883-859 setback to William Smith. Daemen won the first game (198-186), before William Smith posted wins in game two (190-163), three (170-164) and four (150-143). Daemen posted a 191-187 win in game five but could not overcome the deficit.
  • The Wildcats closed out the tournament with a 960-680 win over Hilbert. Daemen held a 332-277 lead after two games and took control with a 224-132 win in game three.
UP NEXT
Daemen is idle until Dec. 3 when it travels to Rochester, N.Y. for a dual match with East Coast Conference rival Roberts Wesleyan.
