Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown received his master’s degree during Daemen University’s graduate commencement ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
“It was a great experience being there with all of the graduate students – having my wife Michelle and my son Byron in the audience as I walked across the stage,” Mayor Brown said during his weekly radio program on WUFO, “Talk of the Town with Mayor Byron Brown.”
Mayor Brown earned a master’s of science in Leadership and Innovation. The program emphasizes team building, effective organizational communication, organizational change, systems thinking, and creative problem-solving.
“It was such an incredible learning experience. A lot of things I have done instinctively over the years in leadership, I now know the theory. I’ve learned strategies to improve your leadership. I’ve learned strategies to encourage others to build up others and help others in their leadership journey,” said Brown.
He is Buffalo’s 62nd mayor and is currently serving his fifth term. Despite governing the largest city in Upstate New York, Brown said with the encouragement of family, friends, and colleagues in city government he went back to school and completed his master’s program.
“Daemen University is a great place. Some people might think you’re the mayor, did you get special treatment? They give every student special treatment there. They have a focus on every student completing their studies.”
