Daemen's Amirato Named ECC Women's Field Athlete of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) of the Daemen University women's track & field team has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for competitions held April 18-24. The official announcement of weekly awards was made this afternoon in the ECC's weekly track & field report.

It marks the first time in Amirato's brief career that she has earned the recognition as she becomes the second Daemen athlete to do so this season, joining sophomore thrower Paige Pavelski (East Aurora, N.Y.) who was awarded for the period of April 4-10. It also marks just the sixth time in program history that an athlete from the Daemen women's track & field team has collected a weekly honor from the ECC during the outdoor season.

Amirato helped Daemen place second out of seven teams at the University at Buffalo Invitational held this past Saturday at UB Stadium. The Wildcats totaled 141 points and finished well ahead of third-place Niagara University (73 points).

Amirato took part in the long jump and the triple jump at an outdoor event for the first time in her collegiate career. She placed first among four Daemen entrants and third overall in the long jump with a leap of 4.75 meters. She also placed first among three Daemen entrants and fifth overall in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 10.69 meters. That effort ranks as the third best in the triple jump at an outdoor event in program history - just behind the program record of 10.78 meters set by Katja Meyer at the 2019 Dave Labor Invitational.

In addition to Amirato's selection, freshman distance runner Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.) was named to the ECC Weekl Honor Roll after posting a first-place finish Saturday in the 5,000 meters, finishing with a time of 17:38.12 - nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Riley Jones (18:27.94) of UB.

Amirato, Colca and their track & field teammates return to action this Saturday, April 30 at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational.
