EAST COAST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS — FULL RESULTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's track and field team placed second out of six teams at the 2022 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships held today on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.

Roberts Wesleyan College posted 172 points to claim its seventh-straight conference title. Daemen placed second (114.33 points), followed by Molloy College (112.33), St. Thomas Aquinas College (95.33), University of the District of Columbia (86) and Queens College (38). The Daemen women have now finished as runner up in three of the last four ECC Outdoor Championships. Daemen's 114.33 points ranks and second most in program history, just behind the 119 points the Wildcats posted last spring.

First place finishes by freshman Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.) in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters, graduate student Betty Jones (Camillus, N.Y.) in the hammer throw and freshman Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) in the long jump highlighted the day for the Wildcats.

The afternoon also featured second-place efforts by Amirato in the triple jump, senior Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.) in the 10,000 meters, sophomore Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) in the 5,000 meters and sophomore Paige Pavelski (East Aurora, N.Y.) in the shot put, and third-place showings by Bailey in the 1,500 meters, freshman Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) in the 10,000 meters and sophomore Alyssa Harrington (Tonawanda, N.Y.) in the triple jump.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Colca becomes the first Daemen athlete to win two events at the ECC Outdoor Championships since Mackenzie Donahue finished first in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters in 2017.
  • Colca opened the festivities by placing first out of seven runners in the 10,000 meters with a time of 39:34.81, which ranks as the seventh fastest time in program history in that event. It marked the first time in her brief collegiate career she has run the event. Daemen had three runners in the event. Golas placed second for the second-straight year with a personal best time of 39:59.85—eclipsing her previous best time of 40:45.96 that she posted at the ECC Championships last spring. Cain ran the 10,000 for the first time in her career and placed third with a time of 40:15.19.
  • Colca capped her day by cruising to a win in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:54.69—which ranks as her second fastest time in the event and the fifth fastest time in program history for an outdoor event. Colca also won the 5,000 meters at the ECC Indoor Track & Field Championships this past winter.
  • Bailey placed second in the 5,000 meters with a personal best time of 18:48.89—eclipsing her previous best time of 18:52.37 she posted at the University at Buffalo Invitational earlier this year. Bailey also placed third out of 15 runners in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:02.70.
  • Senior Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) finished fourth out of 14 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.59, while sophomore Neissa Raymond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took part in the 400 meters and placed sixth with a time of 1:05.63.
  • Sophomore Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) posted a personal best time in the 400 meter hurdles (1:15.52), while classmate Haley Hinds (Blossvale, N.Y.) placed fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (13:01.41).
  • Amirato becomes the first athlete in the history of the women's program to place first in the long jump at the ECC Outdoor Championships. She posted a personal best leap of 4.92 meters in her first of six attempts and finished just ahead of defending champion Hailee Lowe of Roberts Wesleyan (4.89 meters).  Amirato nearly took home two titles, but came up just short in the triple jump. Her leap of 10.66 meters placed second to Bianca Hiltz of Queens, who won the event with a leap of 10.68 meters. Amirato's leap of 10.66 meters is the second longest of her brief career and ranks as fourth longest in program history for an outdoor event.
  • Harrington also took part in the long jump and triple jump and posted a top five effort in both events. She finished third out of 10 in the triple jump (10.39 meters) and placed fifth in the long jump (4.60 meters).
  • Jones defended her title in the hammer throw, as she placed first out of 12 entrants with a school-record toss of 40.86 meters—eclipsing the previous standard of 39.95 meters set by Hannah Miller at the 2019 Dave Labor Invitational. Jones was also the top Daemen finisher in the discus throw, as she placed sixth out of 14 with a personal best toss of 30.09 meters.
  • Pavelski nearly defended her title in the shot put, but finished a close second to Moriah Mills of Roberts Wesleyan. Pavelski posted a personal best throw of 11.39 meters—eclipsing her previous best of 10.97 that she posted at the RWC Capstone Meet last spring. Mills won the event with a toss of 11.47 meters on her sixth and final throw.
  • Junior Skye Dorcely (Buffalo, N.Y.) placed ninth in the shot put with a personal best toss of 9.75 meters and finished sixth in the hammer (32.41 meters).
  • Daemen's 4x800 relay team of Bailey, Golas, Cain and Thomas placed fourth out of five teams with a time of 10:32.04—which is the sixth fastest time in program history.
  • Daemen placed second despite missing several key members of the team due to COVID-19 protocols.
