Before the puck even dropped, some Business Administration majors at Daemen University had a winning experience at a recent Buffalo Sabres game.
Students in the Sports Management Program and members of the Sports Management Club, along with three faculty members, took part in a pre-game tour at the KeyBank Center last month. The behind-the-scenes access allowed them to learn more about the roles and inner workings of the guest services and ticketing offices, the event security process, and proposed renovations to the arena.
Steve Chasey, an assistant professor in the Alfiero School of Business, said he organized the tour as a way for the students to see what they are studying come to life.
“This was a very successful event in collaboration with the Buffalo Sabres to allow our students to network with industry professionals and to see all that goes into running a sporting event at the highest level,” Chasey added. “Events like this help increase student engagement with peers, faculty, and industry professionals while at Daemen.”
After the tour, the students and faculty were able to stay and watch a winning game. The Sabres beat the Los Angeles Kings 7-0.
