Wildcats Keep Rolling With Big Win Over Tiffin

Daemen Caps Non-League Schedule With 17-2 Victory Over Dragons

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Junior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored five goals and graduate student Casey Decatur (Apollo Beach, Fla.) added three goals and five assists to lead the Daemen University women's lacrosse team to a 17-2 victory over Tiffin University this afternoon at the Medaille Sports Complex.

The marked the final non-league game of the year for Daemen. The Wildcats have now won four of their last six games and improved to 5-5 on the year. The 2023 campaign marks the inaugural season for Daemen, which officially announced it was adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in June of 2021. The Wildcats begin East Coast Conference play this week. The Dragons saw their two game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 5-5.

The 17 goals were one shy of the most scored in a game by Daemen this season, as the Wildcats were coming off an 18-7 win at Edinboro University earlier this week. Six different players scored a goal for the Wildcats today.

Bacher, who has now scored five or more goals four times this season, also picked up two assists today. She has now totaled a team-high 29 goals on the year, which ranks second among the ECC leaders. Decatur, who totaled four goals and four assists in the win over Edinboro has now posted back-to-back eight-point games. She has now totaled a team-high 47 points (23 goals, 24 assists) on the year. She leads the ECC in assists and ranks second in points.

Sophomore Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) enjoyed her most productive game of the season, as she registered her first career hat trick and finished with four goals. Freshmen Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) netted three goals and added an assist. It marked the fifth time in the last six games that Bouley has netted three goals. She ranks third on the team in goals (21) and points (24). Freshmen Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Avery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) also scored today.

The Daemen defense, led by graduate student Hayley Latvala (Grand Island, N.Y.), sophomore Emma Fenwick (Buffalo, N.Y.) and freshmen Jenna Havert (Newark, N.Y.) and Kira Grzechowiak (West Seneca, N.Y.) limited Tiffin to just four total shots in the first half and forced the Dragons into 21 turnovers in the game.

Daemen took control late in the first quarter, as the Wildcats scored four times over the final 7:14 of the quarter and took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter. Back-to-back unassisted goals by Miranto and Bacher early in the second quarter gave Daemen an 8-0 lead and the hosts would take a 13-0 lead into halftime. Daemen built a 15-0 lead before the Dragons got on the scoreboard following an unassisted goal by freshman Gabrielle Beals with 33 seconds left in the third quarter.

Freshman Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) went the distance in net for Daemen and made five saves. Junior Jenay Rennie made seven saves for Tiffin.

Day and Bouley both recorded a team-high five draw controls for Daemen. Day has now totaled an ECC-best 65 draw controls on the year. Miranto picked up a team-high six ground balls.

Daemen posted a 28-11 advantage in total shots and a 24-7 edge in shots on goal. Daemen finished with an 14-8 edge in draw controls and the Wildcats were successful in 14-of-16 clear attempts.

Daemen is idle until Friday (March 31) when it plays its first-ever ECC game at the University of the District of Columbia.
