Four Daemen Keglers Collect All-ECC Honors

AMHERST, N.Y. – Four members of the Daemen University women's bowling team have been named All-East Coast Conference; the league announced today. Junior Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) was a first-team selection, while seniors Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) were named to the second team. Senior Nicole Bergeron (Lima, N.Y.) was a third team selection. The 16-member team was voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.

Gizicki becomes the first student-athlete from Daemen to be named first-team All-ECC in the eight-year history of the program. Bartosz and Nowak both collect the honor for the second-straight year. They both earned third-team honors last year, making them the first student-athletes in program history to garner All-ECC recognition. Bergeron collected the honor for the first time in her three-year career.

Gizicki, Bartosz, Nowak and Bergeron have led the Wildcats to a 41-29 overall record entering this weekend's action at the ECC Bowling Championship. The Wildcats have eclipsed the 40-win plateau for the third time in program history and enter the ECC Championship ranked No. 11 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III poll. The Wildcats placed among the top five teams in five of the seven tournaments they competed in this season and claimed first place at the Grapevine Classic and the Daemen Storm Fall Classic.
 
Gizicki is a two-time ECC Bowler of the Week recipient and earned MVP honors following the Daemen Storm Fall Classic and the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament hosted by Saint Vincent College. In traditional matches, Gizicki is averaging a team-high 19.90 pins in 325 frames bowled and also leads the team in strikes (153). Gizicki has appeared in 283 Baker format frames this season and is averaging 17.92 pins per frame. Her 31 Baker double strikes are tied for second on the team and she ranks third on the team in Baker strikes overall with 105.
 
Bartosz has appeared in 327 Baker format frames this season and is averaging a team-high 18.56 pins per frame. Her 29 Baker double strikes are fourth best on the team and she ranks second in Baker strikes overall (106). In traditional matches, Bartosz has averaged 18.44 pins in 388 frames bowled with 134 strikes. She was named to the all-tournament team following the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament.

Nowak leads the team in Baker frames bowled (328) and has posted an 17.73 pins-per-frame average in Baker matches. She leads the team in both Baker double strikes (35) and total Baker strikes (113). In traditional matches, Nowak has averaged 19.21 pins in 370 frames bowled with 150 strikes. She was named to the all-tournament team following the Grapevine Classic, the Daemen Storm Fall Classic and the Division II Wildcat Invitational hosted by Wilmington University.
 
Bergeron has appeared in 280 Baker format frames this season and is averaging 17.96 pins per frame. Her 31 Baker double strikes are tied for second most on the team and she ranks fourth in Baker strikes overall (97). In traditional matches, Bergeron has averaged 17.50 pins in 307 frames bowled with 106 strikes. She was named to the all-tournament team following the Grapevine Classic.

Gizicki was joined on the All-ECC first team by Chloe Sromovski of Kutztown and Samantha Strebel, Jenna Stretch and Haley Youker of Mercyhurst. Youker was voted the ECC Bowler of the Year, while Stretch was named the ECC Rookie of the Year.

Bartosz and Nowak were joined on the All-ECC second team by Paige Barkley of Roberts Wesleyan, Madison Gentes of Saint Anselm, Megan Hanaway of Kutztown and Samantha Schurr of Mercyhurst.
 
All-ECC third team selections included Bergeron, Mykenzie Burnett and Amelia Ponto of Roberts Wesleyan, Olivia Hillman of Bryant and Jessica Portela of Molloy.
