Lumsden Gymnasium Floor Gets Refreshed Design 7/19/2022 2:00:00 PM AMHERST, N.Y. - The hardwood floor of Lumsden Gymnasium - a multi-purpose facility on the Daemen University campus - has been renovated and redesigned in a project that represents the completion of the Division of Athletics' first phase of branding updates necessitated by Daemen's move to university status earlier this year. Named for Charles L. & Gloria B. Lumsden, the gymnasium serves as the home venue for the Daemen men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams, a practice site for additional varsity, club and intramural sports, as well as being the site of various campus events. Text along the sideline prominently declares Daemen as Western New York's Premier Division II Team - a moniker adopted by the Wildcats since ascending to NCAA Division II membership in 2015. The interior of the playing surface includes a unique gray finish covering the area from three-point line to three-point line. The center court mark, designed by alumnus and current university staffer Cameron Garrity, features the Daemen Wildcat head and paw logos as they appear to bursting through from beneath the floor. East Coast Conference logos adorn the playing surface in two locations. Side basketball and volleyball courts feature invisible lines, keeping the primary playing surface free of excessive marks. The project, which lasted four weeks in duration, was completed by Archie Donoughe Sanding Company, Inc., based out of North Tonawanda. It marks the second redesign of the Lumsden Gymnasium floor in the last decade. The first was completed in 2014 following a series of updated branding initiatives. "We are incredibly happy with the pristine and unique look of the new Lumsden Gymnasium floor," said Mike Miranto, senior associate athletics director for communications and operations, who oversaw the project from design to implementation. "Not only does the project represent a new era in the history of Lumsden Gymnasium, but it's also a shining example of Daemen's spirit of collaboration with contributions from several different offices, namely the Office of the President and the campus publications team. We are thankful for their assistance in creating a court design that all Daemen student-athletes, fans and stakeholders can enjoy and be proud of." Additional updates of Daemen Athletics logos on the walls inside Lumsden Gymnasium were completed by Ninja Graphics, Inc. earlier this year. Lumsden Gymnasium has hosted several high profile games and events through the years, including the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball East Regional and the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Regional. Daemen University features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 18 intercollegiate teams.
