Bieler is just the fifth person among a small, elite group of exceptionally accomplished individuals to earn this rare distinction. This medal honors individuals who have made a significant effort to improve the quality of life in Western N.Y., have made contributions toward the growth and advancement of Daemen, and have invested substantial time, effort, or resources to improve the world and humanity.Presidential medal with navy ribbon displayed in a case

Daemen President Dr. Gary A. Olson presented the medal to Bieler, recognizing him for his many achievements and contributions. “This medal honors individuals who have made a significant effort to improve the quality of life in Western New York, made contributions to the growth and advancement of Daemen, and invested substantial time, effort and resources to improve the world,” said Olson. “Your dedication to Western New York, to society in general, and, of course, to Daemen University is exceptional. I can think of no one more deserving to receive our highest honor.”

Bieler was moved by the medal ceremony, saying, “I am very touched by this, mostly because I’m so proud to be part of Daemen University,” adding, “It’s a privilege. Kathy and I value what happens here—the values here, the quality of education students get here, the commitment from everyone who is part of this organization, including all of you, and especially Gary for all you’ve given this wonderful university. It’s just an honorto be associated with this university.”

In 2024, Daemen honored Bieler for his dedication to healthcare education and the students of Daemen by formally naming one of its three colleges the Scott Bieler College of Health Professions.
