Daemen’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program will receive a $150,000 grant over a three-year period from the Patrick P. Lee Foundation to fund student scholarships. The Foundation will provide $50,000 each year to fund scholarships of up to $10,000 per year, for up to five students.
“This generous grant is testament to the hard work and innovative teaching efforts of the social work faculty,” said Michael Brogan, DPT, Ph.D. Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Provost at Daemen University. “Over the past four years, 100% of our clinically trained MSW job seekers secured employment at or before graduation. Now, the scholarship fund will help Daemen reach even more students.”
“This scholarship will do so much good – making the possibility of earning an MSW degree that much more attainable for hard working individuals looking to enhance their skills using evidence-informed approaches,” said MSW Program Director and Department Chair, Diane R. Bessel, PhD, LMSW. “Scholarship recipients will pay this generous gift forward by providing high quality and much needed mental health care in our community!”
Daemen’s social work program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education with licensure preparation built into the curriculum to assist students in successfully passing the Association of Social Work Boards licensure examinations. The program includes in-depth field education experiences under licensed social work professionals. In addition, Daemen’s Center for Interprofessional Learning and Simulation (CILS) provides MSW students experiential learning opportunities, promoting best practices and collaboration with other health sciences students.
Based in Buffalo, NY, the Patrick P. Lee Foundation is a private, family foundation committed to achieving immediate and measurable impact in the areas of education and mental health. Through its scholarship program, the Foundation supports students pursuing careers in mental health, addressing the growing demand for mental health professionals.
