Geoff Schneider Men's Basketball Up To Third In D2SIDA Regional Poll Wildcats own region's longest winning streak at 12 straight games 2/14/2022 2:45:00 PM By: CONTACT: Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for Communications/Operations AMHERST, N.Y. - On the strength of the region's longest winning streak, Daemen is up two spots to the No. 3 ranking in the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Men's Basketball Media Poll for week 13 of the 2021-22 season. The D2SIDA East Region Media Poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Daemen has won 12 straight games and this week's ranking marks their highest ascent in the poll since the preseason version when they were also ranked third. The Wildcats, who had been ranked fifth in the last two regional polls, sit at 17-6 overall and are the only team in the region without a conference loss (14-0 ECC). The Wildcats extended their winning streak with a 97-52 defeat of Western New York rival D'Youville last Wednesday night. The Wildcats sank 14 three-pointers for the third straight game and saw five players reach double figures. The 45-point margin of victory tied the program record for any win during Daemen's NCAA Division II era (2015-present). Bentley (17-3), which leads the NE10's Northeast Division, grabbed all six first-place votes to sit atop the poll for a fourth straight week. ECC rival St. Thomas Aquinas (20-4) is in at No. 2 again this week. Arguably Daemen's best win of the year came January 21 at St. Thomas Aquinas and the Spartans are set to visit Lumsden Gymnasium later this week (Friday, February 18). CACC South Division leader Jefferson (16-5) and the NE10's Adelphi (17-6) are tied at No. 4 this week. Adelphi was the poll's biggest mover this week, up three spots from their No. 7 ranking last week. The bottom half of this week's poll includes No. 6 Dominican (16-5), No. 7 Post (16-7), No. 8 Pace (15-8), No. 9 New Haven (14-7) and No. 10 Saint Anselm (13-7). Daemen has been ranked in 45 of the last 51 D2SIDA regional polls dating back to January 2018, posting a 92-28 record over that span. With the NCAA set to release the first official regional rankings of the season later this week, this is the final regional poll to be released by D2SIDA this season.
