Daemen University’s Physical Therapy department hosted its Annual Physical Therapy Evidence Based Clinical Research Symposium on December 7, where Doctor of Physical Therapy students in their third professional year showcased their capstone research projects through 30-minute presentations, marking the culmination of three semesters of clinical research coursework with a faculty mentor.
Over 250 students, faculty, clinical instructors, and family members attended the event in Schenck Hall, which kicked off with a keynote address by Dr. Greg Ford, the founding dean of the Scott Bieler College of Health Professions.
Coursework included the completion of a comprehensive analysis of the clinical literature, development of an appropriate method to investigate research questions, a written human subject review proposal that was submitted and approved by the university’s Institutional Review Board, data collection and analyses, preparation of a manuscript suitable for submission to a scientific journal, and the platform presentation at the Research Symposium.
“We are incredibly proud of our PT students, and the time and dedication they invested in the symposium,” said Dr. Jennifer Scheid, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at Daemen. “Their passion for learning and patient care shined through in their presentations, and we know they are destined for fulfilling careers in improving the lives of others.”
