Daemen University held its inaugural College Compass Program — a one-day program to help high school seniors navigate the college search process — on August 6.
Daemen’s First Year Admissions team welcomed 13 students to campus and led four insightful sessions, including college fit, writing an essay and resume, an overview of the Common App, and guidance for financial aid and support programs.
“We were really happy with the turnout and enthusiasm of the students who attended our first College Compass Program,” said Alex Stowe, associate director of Admissions. “Our objective was to use our team’s combined 30+ years’ experience to guide students through all aspects of the college application process — regardless of where they plan to attend next fall — and make it less daunting for them. The program was a success and we look forward to building on it in the future.”
Student attendees agreed. Hudson from Canandaigua, N.Y. said, “I loved the opportunity and I definitely walked out feeling a lot better about the college application process.” Michaela from Lancaster, N.Y. added, “The event was incredible and I feel so much more prepared for applications now with everything I learned!” Liv from Orchard Park, N.Y. stated, “I feel like Daemen did an amazing job preparing future college students and current students going into their senior year to feel more prepared, confident and significantly less stressed. I personally really enjoyed that the event was not overwhelming and had a smaller group of students. It definitely made it easier to ask for help, with one on one conversations, and to get to know other students.”
Students left the program with essay ideas, a resume outline, a Common App account, and their FSA ID, as well as profiles with various independent scholarship websites.
