Six Pre-Vet students and Caitlyn Montross, Associate Professor of Chemistry, attended the 2025 APVMA Symposium hosted by Lincoln Memorial University’s Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine on March 14 and 15.
The symposium, held at the DeBusk Veterinary Teaching Center in Ewing, Va., gave attendees the opportunity to participate in a hands-on lab, with options including suturing patterns, dissection, bovine dystocia, bovine bandaging/castration, equine ultrasound, equine IV and IM injections, and dentistry and bandaging.
Various lectures were presented, ranging in topics from small and large animal care, to veterinary careers, to graduate school preparation, and more.
Thirty-five exhibitor tables were on display, enabling students to interact with members of the veterinary community and representatives from a number of vet schools.
“This symposium was an amazing learning and networking experience for students,” said Montross. “It gave them the opportunity to engage in exploratory conversations with a variety of veterinary advisors to help them decide where they would like to pursue their graduate degree. The students unanimously agreed that they want to participate in this event again. We will continue to research ways to apply for funding for future events.”
