(Midtown Athletic Club) Score: RIT 6, Daemen 3 Records: Daemen 6-10, 2-3 ECC; RIT 4-4, 1-4 Liberty League ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- For the first time in four days, the Daemen women's tennis teams continued its spring season with a 6-3 loss against the RIT Tigers in a non-conference dual match Sunday afternoon at the Midtown Athletic Club. This was the Wildcats' first action after a non-conference matchup with Southern Virginia on March 31 was canceled due to weather. Despite the team loss, Daemen graduate student Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) continued to make her mark on the program's record books after recording wins in singles and doubles play. With a win over Gabby Donahue in second singles, Stasiuk passed Hayle Scanlan '17 as Daemen's all-time leader in singles wins (48.) Stasiuk also passed Gretchen Ringler '18 for second in combined singles / doubles wins (85.) Stasiuk is still unbeaten in singles play this spring and improved to 9-5 in singles play on the year. She now has a team-high 18 combined singles / doubles wins this season. Daemen's match against the Tigers on Sunday was played under the Division III scoring format which awards points for each match. The Wildcats had won two in a row entering Sunday and were competing for the first time since a 5-4 win at Shenandoah on March 30. The Wildcats were looking to win three in a row for the first time since the span of March 20 – April 11, 2021. After RIT won two of the three doubles matches, the Wildcats took a 3-2 lead thanks to the singles victories of Rubio and Stasiuk. However, the Tigers regrouped and won the final four singles matches of the day to secure the win. Today marked just the fourth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Tigers. RIT is now 3-1 in the series, which began on February 21, 2016. WHAT'S NEXT Daemen remains idle until next Sunday, April 10 when they face D'Youville in East Coast Conference play in Williamsville, N.Y. A time for this contest will be announced later this week.
