Amanda J. Cody is part of the nursing department at Daemen. Let’s get to know her!
What inspired you to pursue your career?
I began my college education in the field of education. I was motivated to return to school for nursing because I have always had a fascination with the world of medicine and healthcare. I knew nursing would be the right fit for me as I would be able to merge my love of education with my love of healthcare and urge to help others.
What two things might people NOT know about your industry or profession?
Nursing is considered the most honest and ethical profession in the U.S. According to Gallup polls, the profession of nursing has been rated the number one most honest and ethical profession for 19 years.
Nurses are not just found in hospitals or doctors offices; they can be found in a variety of fields, including government agencies, health insurance, research, education and law.
In what ways have your students inspired you over the years?
My students’ drive and determination always inspire me, but I have been especially inspired by my students since the COVID-19 pandemic began. These nursing students have been battling a terrible disease on the frontlines and they have the strength and drive to not only attend, but succeed in school while balancing their personal lives. I am truly in awe and so proud of them.
What is something you’d like the college community to know about you personally or professionally?
I am passionate about education and I love being an adjunct instructor at Daemen College. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, walking, and running, and am a marathoner.
What is your greatest accomplishment this year and what do you hope to achieve in 2021?
My greatest accomplishment this past year has been instructing in a new online bachelor of arts liberal studies program at Daemen College in association with Testing and Training International (TTI). It has been a wonderful learning experience helping to create and implement content for a new program.
