Pavelski Named ECC Field Athlete of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore Paige Pavelski (East Aurora, N.Y.) of the Daemen University women's track & field team has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for competitions held April 4-10. The official announcement of weekly awards was made this afternoon in the ECC's weekly track & field report.

It marks the first time in Pavelski's brief career that she has earned the recognition. It also marks just the fifth time in program history that an athlete from the Daemen women's track & field team has collected a weekly honor from the ECC during the outdoor season. Taylor Haude, who was named the ECC Field Athlete of the Week back in April of 2019, was the last athlete from Daemen to earn the honor.

Pavelski helped Daemen place fourth out of nine teams at the University at Buffalo Spring Opener this past Friday. The Wildcats totaled 69 points and finished just one point behind third place Canisius College.

Pavelski took part in four events and was the top Daemen finisher in both the shot put and the discus throw. She placed third overall with a toss of 10.52 meters in the shot put and fifth in the discus (27.28 meters). Her effort in the shot put ranks as the eighth best throw in program history, and the third best effort of her career. Her performance in the discus ranks as the second best of her career, as she came just shy of her career-best throw of 27.73 that she established at the ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships last spring.

Pavelski also took part in the hammer throw and the javelin for the first time in her career. She placed 10th in the hammer (17.94 meters) and eighth in the javelin (10.29 meters).

Pavelski earned first team All-ECC accolades last spring after winning the shot put competition at the 2021 ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a toss of 10.82 meters. It marked the first time a Daemen thrower posted a distance of 10 meters or better since Toria Williams in 2015. Pavelski, along with teammate Alyssa Harrington (Tonawanda, N.Y.) became just the fifth and sixth Daemen freshmen to earn All-ECC first feam honors, and the first to do so since Katja Meyer (triple jump) and Savannah Warner (800 meters) in 2018.

The Daemen track & field teams are idle until April 23 when they head across town to the University at Buffalo for the UB Invitational.
