AMHERST, N.Y. - Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) of Daemen University has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Outdoor Track Co-Athlete of the Week for competitions held April 1-7. The announcement of ECC weekly awards was made this afternoon in the league's weekly sport report.

Moote becomes just the third athlete in program history to collected ECC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors during the outdoor season, and the first since Alonzo Rodriguez-Spencer collected the honor in April of 2018. Moote is now one of only eight athletes in the history of the Daemen men's track and field program to garner a weekly award from the ECC during the outdoor season. He joins past honorees Brett Smith (Track Athlete of the Week: March 25-31, 2013), Patrick Dorsey (Field Athlete of the Week: March 16-22, 2015), Nick Martin (Field Athlete of the Week: March 30-April 5, 2015), Zach Laird (Field Athlete of the Week: March 27-April 2, 2017 and April 3-9, 2017), Alonzo Rodriguez-Spencer (Track Athlete of the Week: April 23-29, 2018), Shaquille Corrica (Field Athlete of the Week: April 23-29, 2018) and Sullivan Keller (Field Athlete of the Week: April 1-7, 2019 and April 19-25, 2021).

A senior, Moote placed first out of 22 runners in the 10,000 meters at the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University this past Saturday with a Daemen program-record time of 32:27.48. He ran the 10,000 meters for just the second time in his career and eclipsed the previous program record of 32:55.47 set by Jeremy Rushok at the 2016 Cardinal Last Chance Meet, hosted by St. John Fisher. Moote's ECC-leading 10,000 meter time of 32:47.48 was nearly two minutes faster than his previous best time (34:13.57) and ranks as the fourth best time in the East Region for the 10,000 meters this year. Moote was also one of seven Daemen runners in the 800 meters. He led all Daemen entrants en route to a 24th-place finish out of 62 overall with a time of 2:03.69.

Moote has been a four-year standout on the Daemen cross country and track & field teams. He earned first team All-ECC honors in cross country the past two seasons and also collected U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region honors after finishing 20th with a personal best 10K time of 32:05.49 at the NCAA East Region Cross Country  Championships this past fall. That time ranks second fastest in the Daemen 10K record books since the program gained full NCAA Division II status in 2015. Moote is a four-time All-ECC honoree in track & field. He earned indoor all conference honors for the mile (2022) and 3,000 meters (2024) and outdoor all conference recognition for the 1,500 meters (2023) and 5,000 meters (2023). He is the Daemen record holder for the cross country 8K (25:16.10), the indoor track 3,000 meters (9:03.44), the outdoor track 3,000 meters (8:43.94) and the outdoor track 10,000 meters (32:27.48).

In addition, freshman Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) was named to the ECC Women's Indoor Track & Field weekly honor roll. Making her outdoor collegiate debut, Oliver posted a school-record effort in the hammer throw at the Dave Labor Invitational. Oliver, who did not compete in the season-opening meet at SUNY Geneseo last week, placed sixth out of 41 throwers with a toss of 43.93 meters, eclipsing the previous record of 43.25 meters set by graduate student Tima Abdellatif last week. Oliver's effort ranks as the fifth-best effort in the East Region this season. Oliver also took part in the discus and shot put. She placed second among Daemen entrants and 41st overall in the discus (25.88 meters) and first among Daemen throwers and 24th in the shot put (10.10 meters).

The Daemen track & field teams are back in action Saturday (April 13) when they take part in the Brockport Outdoor Multi hosted by SUNY Brockport.
