Business students from Daemen University’s Alfiero School of Business (ASB) toured Thermo Fisher Scientific on Grand Island last month to get a firsthand look at advanced manufacturing operations in the local community.
Led by Dr. Tito Rodriguez, an assistant professor for Business Administration and the MBA program, and Dr. Carol Bartlo, an assistant professor and the chair of the MBA program, students in the operations management class and MBA students visited Thermo Fisher – a cell culture media manufacturing facility that employs over 800 managers, engineers, and technicians.
Dr. Rodriguez said the tour helped bring the lessons learned in the classroom to life.
“Such tours provide students with firsthand experience of how theories learned in the classroom are applied in actual business settings,” he added. “This practical exposure can enhance their understanding of concepts like operations management, marketing strategies, and organizational behavior. In addition, visiting local companies allows students to network with professionals in their field of interest.”
Matt Bartels, a director of inventory management at Thermo Fisher and a member of the business school’s advisory board, invited the students to the facility.
Thermo Fisher is one of several local companies that will participate in an ASB networking event on Thursday, April 18.
