Rwandan Genocide to be Addressed in Lecture

Dr. Aimable Twagilimana, a Rwandan native and expert on the country’s history, will discuss the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi at a lecture taking place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in Daemen College’s Rosary Hall.

The lecture, “The 25th Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda: What Happened Then and Why,” is being presented as part of the Daemen History and Politics Event Series. The event is free and open to the public.

Twagilimana, professor of English at SUNY Buffalo State, will discuss the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, which killed as many as 800,000 people, the experiences of refugees during that time, and African development.

Twagilimana has authored books on the Rwandan genocide, the experiences of Rwandan teenage refugees who lived in the war-torn country, and Rwandan history.

The lecture is being co-sponsored by the Daemen History and Political Science Department, the African Student Association, and the Black Student Union.
