Daemen College will hold a special Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 11 that will include a presentation by the Niagara Falls Air Force Base Honor Guard and the display of a student-made 17-foot-by-32-foot flag.
The day’s activities will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Daemen’s Lumsden Gymnasium with a presentation by the Honor Guard on the history and importance of the U.S. flag, which will be followed by a flag folding ceremony. Roger Woodworth, president of the Veterans One-Stop Center of WNY, will speak at the event.
Starting at 11 a.m., Daemen’s Student Veterans Alliance will provide small U.S. flags for students, faculty and staff to place on the campus front lawn outside Lumsden Gym in honor of current and past military service members. Attendees will have the opportunity to view the hand-made flag displayed on the exterior of the gym facing Main Street. The flag was first created in 2002 by a group of Daemen students in remembrance of the first anniversary of 9/11.
The celebration will close with refreshments and a light breakfast in the Nancy Haberman Gacioch Center for Veterans located in Duns Scotus Hall.
The event is free and open to the public.
