Daemen College will celebrate academic and creative achievements with a range of presentations, performances, and other activities at its Academic Festival 2018 scheduled for April 18.
The festival will kick off at 9 a.m. with student poster sessions in the college’s Lumsden Gymnasium. The posters will focus on a number of topics, including the effects of concussions on academic performance, balance, and reaction time; economics of sports franchises on a city; differences in clinical decision-making between orthopedic physical therapists; “Frankenstein” and modern medical ethics; immigrant women and the Violence Against Women Act; and the effects of boat fuel on Lake Erie’s water chemistry.
Among many other activities scheduled throughout the day will include:
- Daemen Pre-Law Student Association Mock Trial Simulation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. will focus on a criminal assault case.
- “12 X 12 Project” from 10:30 to 11 a.m. will feature graphic design student projects that reflect a current topic related to sustainability in the world.
- “Political News, Comedy, and Millennials: Is John Oliver’s ‘Last Week Tonight’ Real News?” from 2 to 2:30 p.m. will address the reaction of millennials to the program and how comedy is used as an effective tool to share real news.
- N. Security Council Simulation from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. will focus on territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
- “Night of the Antelope: Original Student Production” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. will be performed by Daemen students, who also researched and developed this special production that will address the topic of sexual assault.
Also, the college’s ever-popular Festival Musicale from 11 a.m. to noon will feature the music talents of students, faculty, and staff.
All activities for Daemen’s Academic Festival, which is sponsored by the Office for Academic Affairs, are free and open to the public.
